Sgt. Jon Scott is a 19 years veteran of the LVMPD. He has worked in sex crimes unit, violent crimes unit and currently homicide. Sgt Scott's used a power
point presentation that was very informative and precise.  Currently there are between 450-650 cold cases in closed status since the late 1970's. A Cold
Case is an investigation that has not been solved for 1 year and has been closed from further investigations. Reasons for Closure:
1-  hostile witness who is uncooperative
2-  technician is not able to analyze evidence to form a conclusion
3-  all leads are currently exhausted
Cold Case Teams consist of a homicide Sgt., homicide detective, lab personnel, prosecutors, coroner pathologist, and victim witness personnel. Case
Review: a police officer reviews statements, lab reports, crime scene reports, evidence reports, and photos of the crime scene.  Again some cases are
over 30 years old. Check for DNA Evidence includes blood, blood staining, semen, saliva, positive rape kit, and human hairs. Cold Case is closed when
there is an arrest or a suspect has died, prosecutor denies case moving forward, extradition of suspect denied, justifiable homicide, warrant issued and is
unfounded (no crime was committed), inactive---remains closed. The presentation to approximately 100 CPAAA members was followed by a very thorough
question and answer period. Sgt. Jon Scott is another example of Metro having officers in place that are professional, respectful and caring individuals
