On that evening we had
two spoke persons from the Veterans Tribute Career & Technical
Academy High School. Our speakers were Tammy Boffelli
~ Principal, |
and Jason Ginoza
~ Recruiting Counselor. Mr. Ginoza described the different programs
of this school, that teaches grades 9th to 12th. Those programs are: |
- EMT, mainly emergency medical and fire
management services fully equipped with ambulance simulator unit
- Dispatch, includes hard course with high
expectations, fully equipped to match real life's situations, the
largest dispatcher training center in the nation
- Law Enforcement, with tough physical
training, developed by navy seals people
- Security and Protective Services, with
training for computer forensic specialist
- Internship Program, for Coroner, Secret
Service, LVMPD and Detention Center
Mr. Ginoza also pointed out the strict recruitment process based
mainly on the students grades, behavior and attendance from their
previous school years. |
All their equipment is provided through state and federal grants but
also donations that are always welcome. The school speakers are
selected among the best |
in the police department, the coroner office, the FBI, the ATF, the
Swat, the fire department, 911 dispatch, and several other
government agencies. The kids |
have the opportunity to make filed trips to those agencies on a
regular basis. They also have to complete 25 hours of community
services. The school |
requires them to wear a "uniform", blue polo shirt and kaki pants,
at all time while on school premises. To achieve better performance
the school keeps small |
class sizes and 1 hour and a half per class. Mr Ginoza and Mrs.
Boffelli answered several questions from the audience
(attendance:45) and invited all members |
to visit their school anytime, even sit in classes, (please call to
inform them of your visit first). Another delightful meeting for all
the members present that evening. |
